Preserving a Working Waterfront

Today, the Town of Mount Pleasant is committed to the preservation and support of Shem Creek’s working waterfront and fishing fleet. Don’t miss the pedestrian walkway known as Magwood Boardwalk, which provides a bird’s eye view of the creek. There, you can visit Captain Wayne Magwood Fisherman’s Memorial and learn more about a prominent figure in the shrimping community. Bring a cooler packed with ice to take home a pound of fresh shrimp, straight from the dock, to enjoy later.

Exploring Shem Creek by Water

If exploring by water is your preference, rent a standup paddleboard or kayak, or reserve a boat tour at the foot of the bridge. Dolphins play at the surface of the creek alongside, and birds and wildlife will guide you during your journey. An array of offshore and inshore fishing charters are available. You can try your luck with a fishing pole at the end of the boardwalk too!
